Shining the light of Christ into the online community from Cairns North Queensland, the new website of Cairns Lutheran Parish was launched today.
It is hard to comprehend the scale of devastation experienced by so many people in both Far North Queensland and especially in Victoria. When disasters occur, we are reminded once more to put our hope and trust in God and we pray for his mercy and peace to be upon the many families and communities directly affected.

God’s grace and peace be with you.

What are we to make of events such as the terrible bushfires we have witnessed in Victoria over the past two weeks? What about the flooding in Far North Queensland? Maybe you are dealing with terrible events that affect just you or those closest to you. Many people, Christian and non-Christian alike, are asking what God’s role in these terrible events might be. Why does a good and loving God allow such destructive events to occur? Where is God in the midst of all this suffering?

World Day of Prayer 2009 - Papua New GuineaWorld Day of Prayer is a worldwide movement of Christian women of many traditions who come together to observe a common day of prayer each year, and who, in many countries, have a continuing relationship in prayer and service.

Through World Day of Prayer, women affirm that Prayer and Action are inseparable and that both have immeasurable influence in the world. We welcome the worshipping community to share a prayer and pray for others. In March 2009, the World Day of Prayer service is written by the women of Papua New Guinea on the theme "In Christ there are many Members yet one Body."

In Cairns this year, World Day of Prayer will be hosted by the Salvation Army.

Easter 2009

The Gideons International (Australia)This Sunday evening Mr Ray Ramm will be presenting information on the work of The Gideons International in the placement of Bibles into communities and into the hands of people, many of whom have never had the opportunity to read God's Word before.

"I still remember receiving my little green Gideons New Testament and Psalms when I joined the Army in 1987. While I didn't attend church services at that time, it was somehow comforting to think that someone cared enough to give me a small Bible of my own." Pastor Mathew, Cairns Lutheran Parish

Everyone is most welcome to attend this presentation which begins at 5:00pm and will be accompanied with joyful singing and a brief devotion. A shared meal follows.
