Fourth Sunday in Lent – Numbers 21:4-9

Grace, peace and mercy to you from our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

The Israelites who were led out of slavery to the Egyptians were to go into the Promised Land that God had already marked out for them. But in their journeying, they fell into the familiar pattern of calling on God for rescue, then turning away from him when they were sick and tired of his method of deliverance. The continued impatience of the people tried God’s patience and the consequences gave the Israelites every reason to consider once more who was truly leading them and the blessings that come from following God alone.

Third Sunday in Lent – Exodus 20:1-17

Grace, peace and mercy to you from our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

The Ten Commandments will always be a central part of who we are as Christians, shaping and framing the way we live our lives according to God’s will. But like the bones of our bodies, they should be hidden from the view of others. In fact like our bones, if others are seeing first of all God’s law in us, it probably means we are broken. There will always be a place for the Ten Commandments, but they should be wrapped up inside God’s gospel which is the first thing others should see as we live our Christian lives.

Second Sunday in Lent – Mark 8:27-38

Grace, peace and mercy to you from our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Unfortunately Peter also seemed to be very quick to get himself in too deep which meant time and again he needed rescue from himself.

First Sunday in Lent – Mark 1:9-15

Grace, peace and mercy to you from our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Temptation is not at the centre of a Christian’s faith – to say so would be silly. But together with faith always comes temptation, which is Satan’s weapon to lure faithful Christians away from the Triune God. This has been humanities story since the serpent asked Eve, “Did God really say…”
