Seventh Sunday after Pentecost – Mark 6:30-34

Grace, peace and mercy to you from God our Father and our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

The first part of today’s gospel reading is the introduction to the miraculous feeding of the 5,000 by Jesus. This wonderful story can distract us from the depth of God’s love for us which is enacted through Christ’s words that come immediately prior to the physical feeding of God’s people.

Listen once more to Jesus’ response to the crowd who had gathered to hear him speak and to perform more miracles. “When Jesus went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things.” (Mk 6:34)

Heavenly Father, sanctify us in the truth, your Word is truth. Amen.
